deep water

Does anyone now if the little black filters on a mk2 2.4td,these are located under fuse box,and on top of derv pump.They all run on vacum.
If these get very wet does it affect the engine?
Ive suffered lots of smoke and the engine wants to cut out.
I have a snorkel fitted so no water went in the intake.
So all i can find is them little black things.

Shouldn't do, they are only an exhaust/muffler, to stop junk getting in and silence the air it lets out.
