  • tick over

hi what speed rpm should a manual 2.4td tick over at
also how do you adjust it

  • #2
    IIRC 750 sounds about right.
I used the throttle stops nearest the rocker cover to set the tickover

MIne was ticking over at 500 rpm which was ok not lumpy but as it is an auto when off throttle at low speeds and say turning a corner or at a junction I didn't like the way it drove.
Raised mine to a needles width above the 750 mark on the rev counter.
Can't say that it sounds like the engine is racing away and it drives a whole lot better at low speeds now.

Will post up a pic later.

About 800RPM on mine. If you adjust via the throttle, then be aware that the TPS settings will be altered so you will need to check it as well.

right had a play 500 rpm mark
tryed screw on throttle body revs go up
turn it off restart revs now at 1500rpm turn screw tell revs drop it goes back to 500/400

so moved tps when revs where set at 600 revs go to 900 or can go higher
                turn engine off
                restart revs back at 1500rpms
put tps back to where it started revs at 900
                turn it off
                restart back to 400/500 rp
played for 2 hours today still not ticking over

my tps scenes to be on of off
                off 400/500 on 1200/1500 rpms

                  sweird.

are you blipping the throttle between adjustments to let it settle?

                    yes will tuning to 800rpm
but turn it off and restart back its 1500 rpms or back to 400/500 rpm
close i got was 1200 rpm but if i locked the nut it when back to 500 rpm

so i thinking its could be speed sensor in fuel pump as its a bit flat when pully off
but goes well on hills (for a 2.4td lol)
its started to stall out on changing gears but not on tick over

or is it tps going wrong and not telling engine that it needs to tickover and going in to a slow engine run thing getting no lamp on dash

                    going to check dash codes
