  • Idle speed on a 2.4

    Hi all,

My surf seems to take ages to warm up from start up, has a working thermostat in it and does provide heat from both the front and back blowers.
Just noticed today that idle speed is 500 rpm, am I right in thinking that the idle speed for an auto should be about 750 rpm.

Would this have anything to do with the slowness to warm up?

Is it diesel, could be a dodgy gauge??

Its winter, everything is cold, very cold so will take longer to get warm if just sitting idleing

Yeah it's diesel, appreciate that it will take longer to heat up at the moment when just idling, seems to take a while to warm up when driving.

There is heat coming from both front and back blowers so doesn't seem to be any problems with air locks etc

Matrix blocked/restricted, heater control valve sticking, heater box flap not fully open (n/s foot well below dash)

Air in system. How is your water works ?

My 2.4 idles at 500 rpm. Should be 750 rpm. I'm happy to save lots of diesel at tick over

No blockages in the water system and no flaps seem to be sticking, all air appears to be out of the system aswell so alls good in those areas. I'll adjust the idle speed up to 750 and see if that makes a difference.

            Thanks

Seems a little low to me, if I take it up to 750 it sounds better and feels smoother, I'll change it and see what happens ( I can always change it back if it makes no difference to anything )

                Thanks
