Fuel knock, injector faulty?

I put new injectors in my truck yesterday as I had the wrong ones in it. the truck fired up great and ran well. after a couple km a fuel knock started. limped it 50 km like this and at higher speeds/less load the knock is barely noticeable. I noticed a misfire and a lot of black smoke. if I crack my number 2 injector the knock goes away. is it possible that it's stuck open and dumping fuel into the engine? going to reset the ecu and bleed the fuel pump and see how that goes.

Definitely sounds like it's stuck open, would explain the black smoke and the knocking is less at WOT.

Remove the injector and submerge it in petrol (Gasoline) for a while and see it if that cures it.

I contacted the company I got it from, they are sending me a new injector for free. I will still try the method you mentioned as I need the truck this week, can't really wait 10 days for another injector.

One more question, does this tip look a little odd to anyone? I removed 2 injectors and inspected them. The problem injector has a really short tip. Could something have broken off to cause a problem or is this normal?

I have the injector soaking in a clean container full of gas. I'll let it sit for a while and install it in 6 hours or so.

I dropped one of my injectors and it looks like that now. I brought it to a diesel injection specialist who tested the spray pattern and found it to be ok.

Bring it to a specialist and get it tested. If it's bad, he'll be able to fix it or source a replacement. He should also be able to give you tips on what the problem is if it's not the injector. You might even be able to get one out of a scrapper or from someone on the forum.

True, but it might still be less than the local price if they're as rare as i hear they are south of the border

I put one of my really old injectors in just to get around for now. It's leaking fuel a bit and that's causing a cold start issue. I won't be driving it far, the new injector should be here next week

Hi Brad maybe when ya get ya replacement Injector it maybe a good idea to get ya old set refurbed ..

I never did update this. I took the injector to a diesel shop and they found a spec of dirt inside that had scored the tip. sold me a new tip and installed and set it for free. been great since. Never did get my replacement injectors that were supposed to be sent to me.
