  • Steering pump

I have lost all power steering!! seems to be my month of repairs!!

Can anyone point me in the right direction of common problems, I have a scraper so can nick one off that but are there any do's and don'ts or a link to changing it over?

I have checked there is plenty of steering fluid

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

Belt broken or slipping? Is it loose on the mounting bolt on top on engine side? This is the pivot bolt and sometimes can snap if it has been loose and the pump moves around.

Your a star turns out before I had the truck a previous owner had sheared off the bolt that you do the final tension with. so as a get around they had just put a nut and bolt on the sliding track and used that jamb the steering pump in place. The pump had worked loose so all it needed was re tensioning. I have been driving with no power steering for a week and wow what a difference it makes.

        Thanks

        Cheers

Make sure you also check the pivot bolt is tight. There are three bolts. One a 12 o'clock which is in the pump body for the pump to pivot on. One at 4 o'clock (the one you say has snapped) which is in pump body through bracket for the adjustment and one at 8 o'clock for the bracket mounting point.

The pump pivot bolt is usually the one which causes the pump to continually vibrate loose. Just loosen the other two and make sure this is really tight then tension the belt and tighten the other two.
