Hi there my step dad has a 2.4 ssx manual and has been told the head is blown by the ppl he got it from. My question is - how do i know if its the head or the gasket? i realise if i seperate them ill need to replace the gasket ( and bolts?) but is there a way i can check it without too much trouble. As you realise cost wise theres probs alot of difference.

You'll probably see the cracks in the head. It's very rarely a gasket.
No one here would advise you use a cheap replacement either. Best get the head off and get it replaced.Non intercooled nothing. -

Search for 'sniffer test' on here to check if the head is cracked.

I can never seem to find the search facility on here. And do i take the head to a garage to be checked if i cant see any cracks or should it go to a specialist for that?Comment
