  • Difficult to get into 1st and reverse

It is becoming harder to get into first or reverse 2.4 manual, how much travel should a good slave cylinder shove onto the yoke, mine is moving but I have no idea how far it should travel.

The clutch feels as if its biting properly, not noticed any slipping.

T he white plastic bush on the end of the shift lever:
    33548-31010 - bush, NO. 1, SHIFT LEVER
    (£2.50 ex VAT)

    The black/green rubber seat:
33505-35020 - SEAT SUB ASSY, SHIFT LEVER
    (£5.94 ex VAT)

Basically remove gearstick gaitor and remove the 'cap' surrounding the gearstick . This is a bayonet type fitting like a light bulb. Once removed the white bush is on the end of gearstick . The green/black bush sits under the gearstick in the housing . Pop the white bush off and replace , pick the green/black one out with a small screwdriver . Then refit all parts removed to gain access to gearstick.

Right, I have got my gearstick out and the green/black bush is in pieces, and the white bush on the end of the gearstick is rounded.

Have you tried pumping the clutch pedal a couple of times first? Maybe the seals are worn in the slave or master cylinders?

Are the part numbers quoted above for a 3rd gen or will thet also fit a second gen?

might as well fix somthing thats definatley broken before trying anything else.

It makes no difference when I pump the pedal lots of times.

Really? Come on! £15 and the gearbox works again, its a bargain.

Thats way less than 100miles worth of diesel!

I had a twist to the parts girl when I picked them up as well, its not the fact that they were £15 its the fact they have doubled in 4 years, I was just pleased that was all that was wrong, I am not normally that lucky. I wonder how many people have gone down the change clutch/gearbox route (scary innit)
