my turbo was generating good boost ~10psi but oily - and of course that means smoke and oily gunge from the manifold and oil drips on the driveway :-(
so I hauled it out and took it apart - rear seal nearest the turbine worn down to about 1/2 its original size allowing axial movement. I bought a new seal for £5 but wasn't confident it would go back together and spin freely
so I was reading up on the various options, especially on the Oz site. Standard practice on the Oz is dump the old one and get a chinese replica on eBay. Go to the Oz site and search on chinese turbo
so I followed their practice and ordered one. I paid for it last Sunday AM UK time. It was collected by DHL in Hong Kong and I was emailed the tracking number. I saw it leave Hong Kong and arrive in Leipzig. Leipzig to East Midlands. East Midlands to Belfast. I signed for it at 13:24 yesterday - Friday.
I installed it today and it seems to work great. The engine revs more easily and the metal-on-metal noise from the old one has gone obviously. Max boost about 11psi. Overall the engine has a bit more get up and go and is quieter. Too early to know if the gunge/drip has been cured. Or if it's any easier on juice.
On the Oz site they have good long term experiences with the chinese replica CT20s but I have only done 20 miles with it. It fitted fine BTW, but has no studs installed and there was no chance of the studs unscrewing from the old turbo, so I had to improvide with bolts instead, but all worked out fine. No other problems, the oil and water gaskets were provided.
I think it was £120 for the turbo and £50 to deliver.
well pleased so far
