  • Thick BLACK smoke

    Hi,Can any one help me,i've got a 2.4 turbo ssrx on a k plate.I have resently had the timimg belt change and since then it is smoking but only on accelleration and start up.I still have all the power and it changes gear fine but it does like a drop of diesil more than usual.If anyone has had this problem i would love to hear what you think it might be.P.S.What a great site

    I'm not a mech but it sounds like the timing is a little out. With luck one of the diesel experts will be able to give you better advice.
    It's only a hobby!

      Sounds like the pump timing is out . Black smoke is unburnt fuel .Pump is retarded , needs to be checked and advanced if required .

        thanks for your reply is this this a job i can do myself with a haynes manual for an english hilux 4 runner
        if not can you advise or recomend somewhere near to surrey

          Someone on here maybe able to put a diagram on here as I donot have a Surf or the manual , just trying to give a little help .I tried a search fof a diagram but did not find one .

              hi i had the same problem with mine after doing the timing belt, thought it was a tooth out and would need a strip down to align marks again but noticed that the diesel pump is on a slipper plate so is slighty adjustable without redoing timing belt. it is tigntened down with 3 nuts, 2 are easy to get to but the third needs all the extensions you have!!! this should get you at least one tooth adjustment. BUT turned out to be the injectors that were causing the black smoke but smoke was not noticeable until after timing belt!!!! strange but £120 later smoke was gone without moving the pump
