gear shift illumination?

Can anyone tell me if,at night,the gear positions are illuminated(i.e. D,N,P etc.) and if so how do I get to the bulb?Many thanks.

hope you get an answer Duncan, i was thinking the same, and also is there supposed to be some light on the dash console that tells you what gear your,e in?

The gear positions are illuminated.
You will need to remove the centre console to get at the bulb.
You need to remove the arm rest end first. Two screws under lid.

the US 4runners are marked on the dash but not the surf to my knowledge.... shouldn't take too long ato take apart and put back... probably an hour total for first time.

And even then it was only the later 3rd gens, 97 or 98 on I think.
