  • Stripped timing belt

My J-reg 2.4 Surf recently coughed to a stop at some traffic lights at about 5mph. Turns out to be a stripped timing belt (not my fault, only bought it a few months ago with full "service" history).

I've turned over the camshaft and all of the valves open easily and snap back to their closed position with a satisfying "plop". Dare I risk just fitting a new timing belt?

    Phil.

You`ll be very very very lucky, cant see how the valves and pistons aint met, someone will no doubt be along later who`s more in the know to seal your doom

stick a belt on and pray to the gods of luck.. if it misfires consistently then its head off, if not you are probably extremely lucky and should go put the lottery on
