Engine oil?

I am just starting to tackle the dreaded oil leaks on my ln130 and am going to change filters etc while i'm there. Could anyone tell me what grade of engine oil i should use as i dont fully understand the various grades and viscosities. I did try the search function but after an hour thought it was just easier to ask. Also, can the rocker cover gasket be changed without disturbing the front cam seal?
