    hello there

had my surf about 3 weeks now and i'm chuffed with it.it is a 2nd generation 1992 ssr-x 2.4 efi manual.it has by the looks of things had an engine rebuild last year (receipts for 3700)and new injectors and fuel pump but no mention of a new head (it seems to be ok)

anyway i noticed that it started fine when cold but when hot would fail to tickover unless i left it off for about an hour then it would be fine.i also noticed a puff of smoke(kinda bluey grey colour) when changing gear and seemed to hesitate slightly

after spending many hours reading this excellent forum decided to mess around with a few of the little pipes that connect the turbo to those little valve thingys near to the inlet manifold.they look like two flying saucers(i havnt been eating funky mushrooms)sitting on top of one another and the two pipes connect to a small black plastic valve.i just swopped these over and now it starts first time everytime,i get no smoke and about a third more power!

can anyone enlighten me to what these valves do as am a bit worried about it blowing up

thanks again guys for an excellent forum.must admit ive been on here an awfull lot recently my mrs must think im looking at porn because i never usually spend much time on the net

    nice 1

Not sure exactly what they are but I think they are probably non return flow valves. If it runs right you got it correctly fitted now. It's very common for these pipes to go back wrong as there are so many of them. They control a lot of things. You were probably running too lean because of this.

    Well done for finding it.

    Cheers
