Your parcel left today with a few extra bits in case you need them, some wire and solder!

Let me know when they arrive bearing in mind that Royal Mail have a lot to catch up with at the moment!

    Cheers,

    Ray.

Hi ray, the package of components you posted has arrived today (quicker than a box full of quick things!) I have already done the repair and refitted the unit with no problems, I have one question because i have never know it to fully work. When using the fan switch , from the left the first position is off. The second operates a relay behind the glove box but doesn't operate the fan and then the next three positions give me slow, medium and fast speed. does the second position operate a vent to let fresh air flow or am i still missing something somewhere?
Thanks very much for the components.

The first is off but L, M1, M2 and F should all create airflow.
The first one is very slow though, when I fixed mine I had to check it was working on M1 as I couldn't hear anything but stationary with your hand over the vent you should feel something.
If you don't then maybe the resistance is too high (they aren't always exact). If you really aren't getting anything I'll measure a few here and send another out for you to try. As you see from my diagram, the resistor on my is rated at 4.7 but I only have 4.0 when tested on a multimeter. Maybe yours is the otherway and it doesn't allow enough current at all.

If you wouldn't mind doing the hand test over the vent and then maybe chucking a multimeter across the resistor and letting me know your findings that would help.

        Cheers,

        Ray.

I have just had my ear to the fan and legs hanging out the door on the road in the rain, neighbours think i'm nuts! you are bang right the fan does run on the 1st position, it is sooo quiet. while wet and cold with torch in hand i checked on the resistances. The 4.7 resistor reads 5.1, the 2 6.8 ones in parallel read 3.8 and the 2.2 reads 2.5. I have used the meter straight out of my van and it's absolutley freezing and the lcd screen took a while to operate so this may account for the slightly high readings.

After proving that the fan does operate on all speeds i am totally chuffed.

I was hoping to give the surf a blast around in the snow this weekend after it started snowing really heavily today but was gutted when it turned to rain not long ago and it's mostly melting away

Thanks for the components and your help, the saving over a new unit will buy me some nice SURF stickers for the sides

          Cheers
