  • A little wiring advice need for alternator

    HI folks,

Previous to my other thread, my alternator has arrived this morning. According to Milners, they only supply the alternator (new) as a replacement for old with an rounded/rectangular shaped plug. My old alternator had a round 3 pin plug on it, so I need to adapt the wiring to fit.

I am going to cut off the old plug from the loom and modify it with connectors to fit the new alternator. Could anyone please tell me which coloured wires from the old loom need to be attached to which pin on the rear of the alternator.

Ive attached an image of old and new units.

    Thanks in advance.

    Anyone????

My wires on my loom are coloured:

Red with little black/navy blue bands
    Yellow with Blue stripe
    White

I need to know which pins in the picture to connect these to. I dont fancy frying the rec

Viewed looking at the pic, I need to know which wire connects to which pin, starting from the top pin in the pic

I've heard there is an adapter available for Round to Oval plugs. A Google search might reveal where you can get them.

Thanks Nev. I will take a look, as my fix for the plug and wiring are only temp. Id like to ensure a nice dust and water tight plugging.

Old post, I know, but any chance of re-posting those pictures..? They don't seem to be there now.

I'm about to replace the alternator on one of my Surfs (3.0l 2nd Gen).

                Thanks, muchly...

Unless anyone can point me to any comparisons on here...

Just pop your connecter off your alt and have a look at it - if it's oval you've no need to worry.

If your alternator is original toyota there should be a diagram on it showing which wire is which.
