  • New Truck-New Issues !?!

    Hi folks

    Recently bought a '90 2.4 LN130 - manual, & have a few (only 2 !) queries....

Did notice that it had only 1 battery.

    (1) Is this the norm for this model? (SSR)

    (2) Turbo enblem on dash was tapped over . The engine check light & turbo light doesn't illuminate when ignition is on. (Just for the record, turbo does seem to boost ok & has the comforting whistling noise). Have had all the dash out & can't see bulbs for these lights (apologies if its common knowledge that this is the case).

    - Where would one start to find those possible cowboy inky finger prints to rectify ... many thanks all

    ps.

How do I pay my sub for the site creators efforts?
    Submission?...Now that's a bit of a problem.

      Hello

Thanks for the quick reply :o)

Oh ok. Pardon my lack of experience, but what should I look for??

Got the truck locally....(greystones farm area/ottery)...

      Submission?...Now that's a bit of a problem.

        BTW

Tried out diagnostics to get any fault codes...

Appears to the untrained eye (mine) that the glow plug light on dash is used to display codes as it was flashing a code 2 sequence as the engine check would.....

        cheers & good night :o)

ok have a look at the injector pump (located on the passenger side of the engine) if it has the throttle cable going to the pump then you'll have a manual pump, if the throttle cable goes the the throttle body then it's electronic it's the easy way to explain it (i think) without typing for a millenium lol
as for where you got the surf it's because i know of a first generation near me thats been converted to a manual pump so i wondered if it was the same one as the owner is a member on here "imajoiner" is his user name
          hope it helps

            That was random.

First thing to do is to take the tape off and replace the bulbs.

seemed logical at the time as the truck seems to run and boost ok which i was under the impression that if anything was amiss with the engine management, the check engine light would be on but as usual i could be wrong

I'll let a grown up take it from here, I've not come across a flashing Glow Plug light before.

A 90' truck could be a non-EFI truck, s won't have electric fuel pump and will only have one battery unless tis a cold climate spec. Only EFI (91'ish on) trucks have two batteries standard and electronic fuel pump.

(All 1st gens will be manual fuel pumps)

You may find the turbo and check lights are LEDs, so you won't see any bulbs, but not 100% sure.

                            Morning

Thank you all for your input. Will rest a bit easier now lol !

Yes, it is a manual inj-throttle cable goes to inj-not throttle body :o)

While I'm tippy-tapping on here...what is the best way to remove the glow plug fuse as someone has had a go with some pliers & there's not much left of it!!
Takes about a good 8-9 secs for the glow plug dash light to go off. Would it be prudent to change them out or would you put this down to the manky fuse...????

                            Cheers all

to take the glow plug fuse out you need to take the bolts out that hold the fuse box in place and then turn the fuse bo upside down to take the wires off of the fuse to release the fuse. You now need to get a new fuse if its broken up now
