  • Update on 2.4 sluggishness

A thanks to those who responded previously, and I though I would re-post to give an indication of what has occurred since?
I have serviced the Surf, new oil and filters, and attempted to find the adjust on the injector pump to give a tweak (haven't got that figured yet), but the truck is still
a smoking on start up (darker smoke)
b not revving cleanly when cold, mainly, like it's only on 3?
c smoking under load / hills...
it doesn't like hills, and damn near comes to halt, with the box hunting up and down the gears, and a bad smell
but weirdly, is actually going ok when on a flat, and once warmed up. Apart from pulling out of junctions etc, when it seems determined to embarass me by going as slowly as possible....
This is probably not making much sense, I thought that if the turbo was shot it would hardly go at all (tell me if that's wrong), and at the moment I can hit 70, though she'll rev a little high and guzzle fuel.
Could I have dud injectors? Is a diagnostic check on a 91 vehicle a waste of money?
    any advice welcome

Diagnostic check is free, do it yourself with a paper clip.

    Check your ATF too.
