  • going from 2.4 to 2.8

    i have a surf 1992 ln130 2.4td with auto transmission...can i but in a 2.8 engine with the same 2L auto transmission....the 2.8 came with a manual 5forward gearbox...is a lot of mods involve?

You will need a Crank Sensor and a Coolant Temperature Sensor which the 2.8 ltr engine does not have for all to work. Pretty sure the Auto Transmission will not work properly without the Coolant Sensor.

it'll physically fit, the 2.8 is only a bored out 2.4, so all boltholes are the same. You may have some electrical issues, is the 2.8 you have a EFI motor, or has it got a mechanical fuel pump?

Can you not just swap the head and pistons etc. and then maybe remap the ecu?

I'm probably being stupid but that what we did with a friend's AR50 motorbike when I was about 15! It was an AR90 in about 2 hours!

        Thanks,

        Ray.
I've got a plan and it's as hot as my pants!

Head will fit a 2.4 but pistons are 4mm bigger diameter.

so you'll have lots of spare wires, and will have to take the engine fault light bulb out! lol.

it'll fit, but like Nev said, you may have shifting issues, especially anything RPM based.

Never tried it or seen it, but these are issues that spring to mind.

level with line of crankshaft, under intake manifold, a bit back from the engine mount.

                      there should be pics somewhere
