  • Still no hot air from heaters

Just installed a brand new thermostat this morning thinking it would have been the cause of the car getting no heat from the heaters but to no avail.

I have burped the system correctly i think( removed the radiator cap whilst running and giving the pipes a good squeeze). There seems to be a lack of heat in the pipes at the bulkhead. I have made sure the mechanism works under the dash that slides the heater switch. Anyone have any more ideas what the problem could be. Or even better if anyone in the Edinburgh area can take a look at it that would be even better

Noticed at the bulkead there is a valve with an arrow facing towards the passenger side. This valve is clipped into place..

does the valve on the bulkhead move ok as that shuts off the supply of hot water to the heater and if its not in the open position when you bleed the system you could get an airlock in the heater

If you say its tied up then thats the problem. It may well be closed off due to the matrix leaking or something

The valve is'nt tied up just a small metal clip that can easily detach

so its looks like the valve is stuck then and if so then its probably stuck in the closed position.I have got these valves on the breakers here if you want one £12.50 delivered.
We'll see if anyone else comes up with anything if you want that may be the cause

Is there anyway i can bypass the valve just to check if hot air gets through. Cheers

Ive just taken the valve off and gave it a good clean. It appears to be opening and closing correctly. Apologies if this sounds stupid but i take it i should have it going in the direction of the arrow

Have you taken the pipes off and flushed the matrix with a hose pipe.
Stick hose on valve and flush then reverse thru the other pipe that comes out the bulkhead.
Could be matrix full of crap and needs dislodging with force from hose.
Refill system using funnel in end of hose that has spring type clip in your photo, the one on the right, till water fills system and flows out the valve.
May need to hold the funnel up as hi as you can.
Stick the pipe back on the valve and run upto temp.
If you have no funnel cut off coke bottle is about the right size.
                  Remember arrows are silent.....................
Don't forget to tell everyone its indestructable as seen on top gear.......

i had to do mine last weekend. take off the right hand pipe in your photo then stick a garden hose into the valve and turn on the water.

also check the cable from the heater control is working properly as it may be broken somewhere along the way and wasnt moving the valve control.

ok so there are 2 hoses going into the bulk head to the heater matrix.
One comes out into the valve and the other one goes back to the block (not sure where as mines a 3.0l)
Trace the one going to the block and pull it off.
Take the hose on the right of the valve off.
Jam hose pipe on the end of the valve and turn the water on.
                        Make sure valve is on.
Crap/mucky water should come out the first pipe you disconnected.
Then jam hose onto first pipe you took off and flush crap/muck the otherway till runs clean out the valve.
Reconnect the first hose to the block and refill system using funnel through the pipe that connects to the valve.
When water starts to run out the valve reconnect the pipe and check water level via rad cap.
                        Does that make it clearer.
