  • Very Annoying Auto Park

    Hello,

I know ive had my troubles but this is an annoying one, that ive had a while but its not been a big priority as my others.

Basically when i put it into park, the normal way of getting back out of park would be to press down the top button thing, but it only goes half way down, and refuses to budge, and can hear a little click from front right of car, seems to me in the dash bit somewhere.

the only way to get it out is by pressing the little red button, with the jap writing next to it at the top of the gearbox.

with hand on the normal button as far as it goes, then then the red one, you can feel it go down to where it should be.

    any advice grateful

there is a solinoid or something that clicks when you press the brake to sense the pedal is pressed. check the brake lights are all working and check all the fuses in the engine bay and in the drivers footwell.

I've got the same problem on my Surf. Both brake lights are fine, all fuses intact but no click when I press the brake pedal.

Which relay should the brake pedal operate?

i had this problem intermittently. Turned out the brake pedal switch was sticking. If you were looking out of the door with the car backed against a wall to see the brake lights and stamped on the brake pedal it would work, but sat in the car and gently resting your foot on the pedal it didn't operate the switch. A squirt of furniture polish on the switch and flicking the switch a few times and it's been ok for over a year.
