Head Bolts

Ayup, does anyone have the sequence for tightening the head bolts on a 2.4LTE. I'm pulling my head this w/end and would like to remove bolts in correct order (just in case the head ain't cracked).

I always start in the middle and work outwards in a clockwise spiral if that helps.


First pass, tighten to 78nM.
second pass, tighten 1/4 turn extra.
Third pass, tighten another 1/4 turn.

Undo them in the reverse order.

Tightening them in sequence is to allow the gasket to compress properly. Slackening them in sequence on a cold (24 hours after running it) engine isn't too important.

OK head lifted, not a pretty sight, and I've lifted many over the years from LR's to RR Merlin. Large cracks btween all four sets of valves and massive amount of surface damage on 3 & 4. Pistons are perfect as are bores. Hope the pics tell the story
