Brake or master cylinder problem?

I've had the brake line which goes to the rear split where it goes over the fuel tank. There was a lot of corrosion to the line at this location

This split on the MOT test as the tester pressed the pedal .... to the floor

Anyway, the garage has replaced the line, but now tell me that they can't get any pressure into the system and the brake pedal just goes to the floor. They have bled the system numerous times from various points, but no joy.

They say that the master cylinder may have gone.

Now, there was no brake problem before this line split, so ..... could the master cylinder be faulty, would the line splitting and the pedal being floored have damaged the master cylinder, and if so, can the cylinder be repaired or must it be replaced - £300 ouch

Or is there some particular thing to do or try when refilling the brake circuit

Your garage has fcuked up. There's nothing special about Surf brakes.

And no, the MC isn't faulty. Empty (which makes it a pig to bleed), but not faulty.

Count your blessings it went during the MOT though. That prevented a potentially nasty incident happening.

Bleed the master cylinder first then the brakes again. If the fluid level dropped too far the master cylinder will have air in it.

Brakes can be a b+t+h to bleed sometimes, especially if they have been dry for a while and the cylinder rubbers have dried out. There are pressure systems available for doing it or you could just leave all the nipples loose and let gravity do it's work for a few hours.

Sounds like the Garage and/or Mechanics don't know the basics about Master Cylinders ..... n the need to bleed em up first "all vehicles" (they could be there all year with no results unless this procedure is carried out)!!
Gotta agree with what's already been said n even when Fitting New..... you gotta bleed em up First !! before commencing to bleed the brakes ....

Sidenote.....
As a result of continuously trying to bleed n re-bleed the (Brakes n not the M/C first) the M/C rubbers may have become damaged resulting in a Fooked Master Cylinder by now !!
