Search for fault or error codes.

It indicates gearbox fault. As Matt says, search 'ECU codes'

Which reminds me - must sort out my speedo sensor problem before my MOT next month. I'd miss the OD light if it wasn't flashing now though. kind of become attached to it...

        Hi,

Is your speedo working O.K. it normaly means a speedo senser has gone if your o/d light is flashing when driving, take it that your o/d is connecting when driving or are you just in third.

A non working speedo is not a MOT failure item.

It's on the driver's side of the transfer case.

                    ok
how about if your O/D works and can be selected on or off by the push-button on the gear selector, but the OD OFF light doesn't illuminate

                          Hi,

There seems to lots of different ideas on this, had the same problem, checked all sensors, finaly I took out the dash and removed the speedo, found slight burning on one of the traks, replaced the speedo as this seemed the cheapest option, all worked great and has been ever since. Have since found out that there is a resistor in the speedo that burns out, which causes the trakes to burn.

Have a go at this first, and its the easyest job to do.
