  • Pistons Hitting Valves Why?

I'm just in the process of fitting a brand new head and gasket to my 2.4td surf and i cant understand why when bolted down the pistons hit the valves when turning the engine round with a spanner.

Please help as i dont know what else to do.

    Duane.

Assuming you've got the three sprockets in the right position on the timing belt...

-are you sure you used the right gasket? Apparently the TD uses a thicker gasket. Have you measured the piston crown protusion with a dial indicator?

-has the head been machined too far?

-are the collets properly seated in the ridge near the tops of the valve stems?
