petrol in diesel 2

Wife's dropped 15L of unleaded in our empty 2.4 diesel (93 surf ssrx) cant nag her as she has to fill up a petrol motor mainly.
Ive syphon'ed off 5L and added 5L diesel.
Put in new fuel filter filled with diesel.
Motor refuses to fire, where previously she fired first turn.

Obviously petrol in pump - how do I flush out the latter?

Also there's still air in filter despite priming for 5 minutes.
Iv'e disconnected pipe between filter and fuel pump to expel air whilst priming, is this the correct method?

Other problem - batteries fully charged but repeated cranking has resulted in click at turn of key, has the starter motor stuck ?

Any suggestion's greatly received.

Hi n Welcome Steve tell the missus not to Panic, fortunate it's not the other way round !!
Years ago did similar thing 10 litres in a Pug 309D filled it with Derv, started it up n drove off never did have a problem !! (Didn't change filters either)

Ya should find all the help ya need there ..

Make sure ya Battery's fully charged, make sure ya glowplugs are heating up if in doubt glow em a couple O times, don't continue to try starting longer than 20 seconds at a time or ya could cause problems to the starter

top the tank up with diesel.crack off the injector pipes and turn engine over get someone to pump primer at same time.and as jess said dont crank engine over on the starter for too long.

If it still won't start because of air, remove the return pipe from pump and put 2 quick squirts of air from a compressor down the return pipe, i had a similer problem with hand priming for over 10 minutes, the air would not clear from pipes and filter, might be an idea to check pick up pipe in tank and flexi pipes from tank to metal fuel pipes, because if they are old and the clips are rusted presure can escape. It does no harm mixing a small amount of petrol in the diesal, we used to do this all the time in eastern europe in the winter, helps stop the diesal gelling.

Thanks guys! sorry, we've been away.
Added another 5L diesel, then she fired up after several engine turns, blew out heaps of white smoke and within a couple of minutes cleared and ticked over a treat.
She previously blew black smoke on hard power, thats all but diminished and she drives superb, tho start up takes a little longer opposed to the usual 1 or 2 engine turns (not key turns).
Bearing in mind this is approx 40% unleaded.
So now i've recently half filled the tank .. h'mm .. with diesel all's back to normal barring the black smoke, which has cleared up somewhat.
Now here's me thinking 5L unleaded in half a tank of diesel may actually burn off some carbon deposit helping to reduce black smoke syndrome, say 2 to 3 times annually. Anyone affluent on the technicalities feel free to comment.

You may have lucked out and perhaps even cleaned things up a bit with the gasoline. But don't make a habit of it; gas and diesel together in a tank produce both rich vapours and oxygen in the air space above the fuel... an explosion waiting to happen.
