Two batteries

Can I put two 540 amp batteries in my 1991 LN130.

I have had some problems in the past with the alternator, belts were loose and she was not charging. (Had to be pushed off a ferry) That is now fixed. I am going on a journey across France and want to ensure that I do not encounter any such problems again.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to fix two 540 amp batteries together? If so how do I wire it up?

two Batteries

The Idea is to use one as a leisure Battery and run the camping gear off it and still have it in reserve if I need to jump start.
I have seen that this has been spoken about on the forum before, but I can not find any diagrams showing how it can be done.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've split the batteries on my truck, just ran a wire from "normal" battery to "leasure" battery with a relay control and a switch on the dashboard to control charging on and off.

Many thanks Trev, Just ordered the split relay. Should give a bit of piece of mind with the journey ahead.
