  • Towing an automatic

I'm after help or advice please.

Is it bad to tow an automtaic vehicle? And, if so what is the likely damage caused and how soon would it show up?

I ask this because my LN130 2.4TD SSR-X Surf (bueatiful car to drive) suffered the dreaded overheat problem and as a result has a cracked head which is currently being fixed with all neccesary parts thanks to Roughtrax.

It was towed approx. 8 miles and I have since been told that you should not tow an automatic but have not been told why.

Am I just throwing my money away?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sinky

because the transmission internals would have been turning with no fluid being pumped around them. If it was only a short distance and the speed was kept below 40mph it should be OK.
For longer distances a car trailer should be used or at least remove the rear propshaft.

There should be no damage as I said above, but.............
Cheapest, just replace the transmission fluid. around 20 quid.
Worst case senario, replace the transmission. around 200 quid + fluid.
