now i got it back the mehanic has given up as he cant get it started.
i put it back together the bits that he missed.
the heater light is now dim on the dash and the biuzzer does not sound.
it turns over but slowly but will not fire.
the mechanic worked on it outside with the bonnet off ,

    Hi Steve,

I'm taking it this as a 2.4 Surf TD.

If both batteries are fully charged, and connections are tight,
there's an earth tag from the bulk head to engine, near
the EGR manifold that often get missed off, and can cause
this problem, I can't see working outside causing any probs.
Just check every electrical connection you can find. That's
why it turn's over slowly. (bad connection or earth).
    Hope this helps.

    Gman.

Edit: Fill your profile in, then we'll all know what truck you've got.

Check that all of the earth bonding straps between the chassis and the engine/gearbox have been reconnected.

                      hi
the truck runs ok but every now and again the temperature needs does a dance.
it is normally about half way then will go nearly into the red.
when i stop and open the bonnett it is boiling water into the expansion bottle but it is not loosing water.

sounds like you got trapped wind
seriously though, sounds like an air lock.
                        Bleed the system.

                          eventually !!!!!!

                          well just a quick update.
i took off the head again and got it tested all ok but it was warped.
when taking it off noticed some head bolts were not very tight so presumably the numpty who did the work didint do that right either.
well new bolts head gasket and skim later
refitted the head etc and hey presto all is ok again with the old girl.
morrel of the story............ dont let a numpty who pretends to be a mechanic touch your beloved truck.
use a decent garage or do it your self.
thanks for all the help guys.
