  • Changing Speedo/Odometer.

    Hello,

If the answer to my query is already on here I can't find it so just directing me to the correct thread would be great.

My speedo is working but my odometer has stopped going round (good for keeping the miles below 5K for insurance purposes but not great for legal compliance). I have changes the sensor on the gearbox as suggested on another thread but that has not fixed it so I have bought a new speedo unit encased in a dashboard from a 1992 LN130.

Two questions. Could someone point me to some instructions for removing/replacing the dashboard or speedo unit.

My relacement odometer reads 147K as opposed to my current unit which shows 186K, is there a way of clocking it to the right level or do I need to complete some paperwork for the new reading? Obviouls y the MOT certificate and insurance documents read around 180K and I don't want to cause confusion.

Thanks for any and all advice.

An Odometer is not a legal requirement. As for changing it, remove the black surround, take the dash out, strip it down, replace the speedo head and rebuild. All in, it's about a 20 minute job.

Don't alter the odometer reading on the new head, that is illegal. Just keep a note in your logbook that the speedo head was changed, the date of the change and what the old and new readings are.

Forgot to say, there is a screw behind the heater control facia, so remember to take that one out (if it's not already been broken!)

          Update

Once I got a new dashboard it was incredibly easy to fit even for someone with no mechancal pedigree. I had been quoted £50 by the local garage so managed to save that thanks to this advice.

          Cheers
