bang and then a knock

iam in a 2.4 td auto
when i put my foot down and then ease off and put back on again
there is a very loud bang then a knock almost at once from the back end or mid rear
and every now and again mainly when going up hill
theres is a squeeking with a slight knock coming from the same area

any ideas any one
