Do the test anyway.....

It'll take the guesswork out of trying to diagnose a problem over the internet and prevent a lot of confusing and unnecessary posts.
If I had to guess though, I would say the EFI temp sender on the side of the block, under the inlet manifold is kaput or the wiring is disconnected or damaged during the head swap.

Smoke on start-up, rough idle
I know this has been covered many times before but i can't seem to get to the bottom of this one.
I have tried and replaced the following:
1 New cylinder head fitted (all ok before)
2 New radiator, thermostat and rad cap
3 New glow plugs (fuse ok and waiting for the beep before starting)
4 Tried doing the glow plugs twice before starting
5 Ran the engine with ATF fluid in the diesel filter (twice)
6 New diesel filter
7 New air filter
8 Oil and filter replaced
9 Re-checked the timing marks and all ok
10 Egr removed and blanked off
11 Tried with derv and veg
But after all this i am still getting grey smoke on start up and it runs like a bag of spanners until it warms up.Tags: None
