  • OK heads off.......

Firstly thanks to everyone who answered my desperate plea Re: what to do:

I have taken all on board and have a few plans ready to go, BUT can i pick your brains once more pls.

    what we have noticed:
The head gasket has two small breaks both appx 4mm long on the No 1 cylinder, bottom (towards block) inner edge,

She went hydraulic just before taking apart and only cylinder No 1 is wet/coked the rest are drl and clean,

We have yet to take out the pistons but wondered where is the usual place the head goes on Surfs? (sorry for bad english). It looks potentially that if the head has cracked it may have gone between the water channel and the injector, does this happen, usually?

It (the head)is off to the machine shop monday and the engineer is a trusted weisel shaver so i have no worries there but my mate (the mechanic) and i thought someone may be able to shed a little light on the subject for us.

I have a recollection of someone saying something about water jackets going? where abouts?

Other than speculation, at the moment we only have the diddy cracks in the gasket the rest is guess work for now.

    Pistons out next then! whoopy.

Also can anyone tell me/ point me in the direction of data for the head rebuild i.e. timing, torques etc

Once again thanks in advance you guys ROCK!!!!

P.S. at the moment i am driving around in a landy, just to compound the pain! oh the shame!!!!!

sounds like its only the head gasket thats the problem

have the head pressure tested before you have it skimmed, it could be cracked internally,

why are you taking out the pistons??, if the bores are'nt showing any sign of wear and the pistons are ok i wouldnt take them out

My head had cracked as in the following pics, at first look we thought that it was only the gasket. But after closer inspection of the head and a little cleaning up the small cracks were revealed, look closely.
