Why are my wheel nuts bigger than my standard wheel brace, I had to put a 21mm socket on it ?

You have the wrong wheel brace .

but its the little black standard one next to the bottle jack which looks unused

Have you had aftermarket wheels fitted ? Perhaps the standard nuts have been changed.

Standard size wheel nuts if I remember are 21mm . Black wheel brace sounds like a Ford one and is 19mm .

Standard alloy wheel nuts are 19mm.

Mine are 21mm on the original alloys with the flanged nuts

From what i have been told by toyota boffs, the 60 degree ones are 21mm and the flat ones are 19mm.
