  • replacing alternator

    hi all

i'm pretty sure my alternator is on the way out - have had trouble starting once or twice, noticed voltage is lower than it usually is before i start the car, and with engine running voltage sometimes doesn't seem to go up when i rev.

    so...

is removing/replacing the alternator an easy job? is it worth getting a haynes manual?

and if i source a secondhand alternator, what are the different types? i've noticed talk in here of the vacuum pump being mounted in different positions for different alternators for the same engine type - or am i getting that wrong? my surf's a 1990 2.4LT manual import, LN130 i think?

    any help much appreciated!!

Hi Bud, my old Truck was also a 1990 (found out there were 5 different types) thankfully only 3 types available for this Model n year.
After removal ya could take it to Auto electrical repair shop n have it reconditioned or find a replacement but make sure ya check the Numbers on the alternator n Sticker number also .. Good Luck
