  • Help!!

I live in canada and I created this account to hopefully get some answers.

    I have a 91 Hilux Surf 2.4TD

I was replacing the glow plugs and one of them snapped in half and the other half is stuck in the head. So the head has to come off. (tried drilling)

    I have a few Q's.
Are 2L and 2L-TE Gaskets the same? head, intake and exhaust

Are 2L and 3L Gaskets different? head, intake and exhaust

this would help lots, my Hilux is imobile at the moment and I need to get it going.

2L, 2L-TE and 3L heads are interchangeable, so I would assume the gaskets are the same.

          Ok, More Info

There are 3 types of Head gaskets.

          B D F

          B - 1.45mm thick

          D - 1.55mm thick

          F - 1.65mm thick

I took off the head and I have a D...

I need to know if I have a 3L head, how do you tell the difference between a 3L and 2L head?

We are slowly making progress, I'm sure you guys can help me find the differences right?

3L has a bigger bore than a 2L-TE so gaskets are not the same. If replacing a head gasket and using a 3L head on a 2L-TE use a 2L-TE gasket.

That question covers a lot of heads. All 2L heads will have roller rockers. Early 2L-T heads will as well. Latter 2L-T have bucket and shim as does the 2L-TE and 3L. 3L heads are interchangeable with latter 2L-T and the 2L-TE and not the early 2L-T or 2L. Confusion occurs when you cover such a range from 2L through to 3L.

Post your model and frame numbers and I will look up the specific part numbers so you are sure to get the right parts. If you are doing the head then replace the bolts as well.

Sorry I should of been more specific

                I have a 2L-te but I have a class d gasket (1.55mm)

I don't know If the head has been already swapped to 3L head?

I found a number on the head (2122)

So even if I had a 2L-te original head would it hurt to run a 3L gasket

It's 91 hilux surf ssrx with 198km. So the high mileage has me wondering if the head has already been done

                  Use a 2L-TE Gasket.
