my 92 2.4 is starting to irritate. me after collecting it from the garage a month ago being told it was fine and had a new radiator i really thought it was sorted its been fine in the isle of man but then i took it to the uk for four days and on the last day it creeps up into the red and boils over... pulled over and lifted the bonnet....top rad hose solid with pressure got a rag and took the cap off the stat and bouy did that go with a bang .it spat the lot out and let off a mighty amount of steam. knocked on some blokes door and managed to scrounge some water...filled it up and went fine again...so wheres the water goin theres no leaks (head ..head gasket) it has been fine on the motorways but when i went to preston @ 90 mph (well within revs) it threw a fit....this surf is still under warranty so i need some help with a diagnosis guys ......i must admit its not the best of engines but the guy in the garage wont pay for a v8 conversion lol....help

Did you notice if the expansion tank coolant level was higher than at cold??Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

Could be the stat, tank should have been hot. If steam was coming from the tube, I would try the stat first. Sounds like it could be sticking and boiling the water before it opens.
I would have said that if it was anyting else, head, gasket, air lock etc it would have pushed the coolant into the expansion and overflowed it, most of these symptons have done this at one time or another.
If the stat is knackered it won't allow coolant out of the system.Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.
