  • crank pulley removal

    hi,
i'm in the middle of trying to change my water pump, i followed the instructions on the aussie surf site, i removed the bolt that holds the crank pulley on with some difficulty but can i can the actual crank off!!!
other posts describe it as just pulling off but none of that ease for me,
any ideas? do i need to give it a good hit or do i need a crank puller of some type?
    cheers in advance

You need a Harmonic Balancer puller or a piece of flat steel with two holes at 72mm centres and a hole in the middle. Weld a nut to middle. Use a large bolt for middle nut.

    Pic of hole locations here.

A few taps around the centre may loosen it.

ok, got the crank wheel off,
      removing old water pump,
bolt on right hand side(about 3 o'clock) sheared immediately upon trying to remove.
do i reassamble, have a beer and forget about it or what?

also 3 of the 6 bolts quite corroded(includind the one that sheared)
i assume this is a bad sign,
does it point to anything in particular?

Corroded bolts probably indicate leaking around gasket. You will need to remove the broken bolt to do a proper fix. Use new bolts or thoroughly clean the old, if you can and use some anti seize on the threads when you reinstall. Also use a very thin coating of Aviation Form A Gasket on both sides of the new water pump gasket.
