  • water Leak from the head

    Afternoon Gentlemen :-)

I thought this might happen. I picked up a trailer yesterday and towed it home, around 130 miles or so. Anyway, I was off tomorrow to pick up 400l of waste oil for my wee bio production venture but looks like I will be taking my old series landy! Never let me down yet no matter what I do to it

I appear to have sprung a leak from the head

Any advice you could share? I am not over heating everything is how it should be apart from the problem in hand. I did have a small oil leak I noticed some time back at the same place. Could be a new head already, looks like the head has been off as someone has already marked pipes etc that would not have to done unless you were doing the head maybe.. Do you reckon the head might need re torqued or something?

Hope the pic is not 2 small...

    Thanks people!!!

that to me looks like it might be fuel. also i noticed alot of the pipes have a rust colouring over them which could mean you might have a leak else where

Is your rad cap ok? or the big hose on it? Like the man said, looks like something is blowing water all over the place...

        Thanks Chillitt & Sledge!

I did think to begin with that it was from one of the little rubber pipes below the thermostat(which it could still be but at this stage I can not be sure. The leak at the side of the head weeps after I clean it dry with a cloth Could it be the head gasket maybe?

I have a new thermostat, radiator cap and recently flushed, burped etc.

only real way to test the head is 1) block test or 2) take the head off or 3) just keep an eye on water levels and gunk on the oil cap

I think I have been lucky this time I am just in after having another wee look and I am sure that the little rubber water pipe below the thermostat (looks a little perished) is leaking down to the cylinder head ledge and spraying water everywhere under pressure.

I don't want to take the Land rover on my wee trip I'll fix it this weekend and pick up the waste oil next week...

            Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Oil leak is probably from the rocker cover gasket. No biggy, but worth sorting when you've got the time.
