EGR - with picture - please help :)

Hello,

I have a 1988 Surf SSR Turbo. I am thinking about closing up the EGR. Please find attached a picture of my Turbo. Can anyone please tell me if that golden part is my EGR?? And if so, so i just pull the cable from it and tie it up?

Now I have heard of all the pros and cons about the EGR, but can anyone give me their own personal experiences or what they have heard? This would be a great help to me and everyone else that is considering.
