Hey,
1st post, whe hey,
I recently accquired a 92 Hilux Surf, 2.4td,
I love it,
it had been abandoned and i gave it a home,
Its was given to me and i was told about two problems,
there's a snapped timing belt,
and freeze plug was gone, (apparantly the one nearest the fire wall,)
i also noticed another belt is gone,
the second belt back from the radiator,
its connected to what apears to be a pump of some sort on the upper left side of the engine ( if standing in front of truck and lookin into bonnet)
the pully on the 'pump' spins freely,
Q1, it the pully supposed to spin freely?
Q2, whats the name/size of this belt to replace it?
I then took off the camshaft cover,
everything looks alright, and upon turning one of the belts on the out side of
the engine the camshaft turns,
Q3, i think this implies that the timing belt is not
snapped? eh? and would the 'timing belt' the privious owner had been talking about been the belt in Q1 and Q2?
the frost plug??? hmm, i cant find it,,, i filled the collant system (metal twisty
cap) with water, no apparent leaks,
Q4, if all the water is still there in the morning does that mean the frost plug is ok?
Q5, the camshaft cover has a permantent thick black rubber gasket, and the remnants of a thin grey gasket, i removed the grey remnants, and do i need to replace it? whats it called,
Thanks alot,
Joe,
