  • Power steering problem

    Folks,

I started having problems with my power steering over the weekend. I drove 5 miles to the shop on sat night, no problems, parked it up for 30 mins and when i came back the steering was heavy as hell.

Now when i start to turn the wheel the wheel starts to vibrate like its trying to do something, I have checked the fluid level and it seems fine.

Have anyone had this problem before, is it more likely to be the steering box or power steering pump

    Thanks

    George

It's just the one belt, right hand side as you look at the engine.

Make sure the pump has not broken a mounting or adjuster bolt. This can happen.

guys - i was cheeky and popped home for lunch and i checked that pump

the pump is loose so that explains the problem, now i just need to figure out what caused the pump to come loose.

I looks like one of the tensioning bolts is missing and from what i have read here, there is a good change that it has sheared off, are these easy to get out, i'll put her over a pit tomorrow night and see what caused it to come loose.

again guys, thanks for your help so far.

I must subscribe, i only have the jeep a few weeks and you guys have already helped me out with 1 or 2 problems.

There are three bolts. A long bolt that the pump pivots on. A bolt through the adjuster bracket to the mount itself I think and a bolt through the bracket into the pump. I think it will be either of the adjuster bolts that has broken rather than the long pivot bolt.

definitely one of the adjuster bolts is missing or more than likely broken but I'll take a proper look tomorrow night

the adjuster bolt has sheared off, hopefully I'll get it out tonight and repaired
