  • Want better power with less smoke? Read here

    Hey guys,

I own a 1988 SSR Hilux Surf SSR Turbo. It's a stock standard 4wd with 230 000 on the ticker. Like most people, i was experiencing lack of power along with black smoke once the turbo kicked in. I got some advice on how to improve power and reduce black smoke so i took up the advice.

I purchased a K and N Filter. The follow site illustrates the filter.

    http://www.knfilters.com/filtercharger.htm

    It cost me $260 Australian.

I replaced the old fitler with the K and N fitler and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!
I have experienced a 30% increase in power and a dramatic decrease in black smoke, as there is better disiel to air mixture. When i first fitted the filter and took it for a spin, I had to go to hospital to get my neck checked out!!!

If you are looking for a CHEAP, realistic way to boost your hulix's performance up to 30%, like mine, i suggest you seriously look into this particular filter. I can not believe the difference in power, smoothness and fuel efficiency.

If you hate being the sluggish guy at the front of the lights and having everyone pass you and swear at you, buy one of these, it will put a huge smile on your face!!

    Have fun with the results!!!

I suppost that's possible if the old filter was so blocked that the engine couldn't breathe but otherwise there's no way a K&N will give that much improvement. I have one a noticed no diffeence between it and a clean paper filter.

      K&N Filter

      Hey,

Do you work for them!! LOLS..

I have taken my filter out a few times, mainly in the winter time, no dust around then, dosent make a bit of difference to power and smoke.
I like the idea of being able to clean out the filter instead of buying new ones, i usually blow mine out with the compressor a few times before i replace anyways.
Also you can buy quite a few filters for the price of one K&N.
      2.8L Best toymotor engine ever!!

I think even K&N themselves only boast 5-10% and they're trying to sell the things, anything more seems unrealistic unless backed up with scientific results...............IMHO.

BTW. $260 is an absolutely outrageous price. You got ripped off.

          My lips are now sealed.

I do NOT work for K and N. As for my results, i had my truck tested and it gained a 29.2% increase in power, so yeah let me see..a professional mech results vs people on this website...yeah ok enough said.

All i was simply doing was doing was sharing an experience, nothing more. If you want to act immature about the situation, then dont post uneducated, unfounded statements that just make you look silly.

            Have a good day people

I think we should email this thread to K&N so they can have a good chuckle as well.

Now that would be funny, to see the feed back from them.

He's one of yours Nev, banana bender too. I can't wait until he goes on your site and tells them about the miracle power gain, they'll beat the shit out of him.

If he can't take a bit of criticism from some reserved uptight poms he's going to have fun with his countrymen.

And for what it's worth, you can't get a 30% power gain from an air filter although I suppose you could get a 30% power loss from driving around with one that looked like a sack of coal.

Would appear so, now that you mention it. Can't see why. There's a large difference regarding the tech section rules of keeping on-topic and generally serious where a thread like this is concerned, where the thread is a complete and utter irrelevant shambles from post one.

                        Were the Labour Government involved?

Come to think of it, any Government for that matter!

                            K&n Filters

                            Hi
I Have Used K&n Filters And Dont Really Think Much Of Them .a Friend Of Mine Used To Rally A Ford Escort Mk 1 And He Kept Having
Fuel Problems He Found That The Mesh On The Filters Were Breaking Up And Bits Were Going In To The Carbs Blocking The Jets He Changed To Itg Foam Filters And Never Had A Problem Again
I My Self Use A Unifilter Foam Filter From Australia They Come In At About Thirty Five Quid Theyre Reusable Dual Stage And If Theyre Good Enough In The Out Back Theyre Good Enough In Britain .
