  • 2.5 ssrx

    Hi, Newbie here.
    I've just bought a '93 SSRX 2.5.
The engine is listed as 2510cc. Is this correct?

    Cheers.
    Gary.

Hi Lizzy, I mean Gary, err newbie, welcome on board.

    Your engine is a 2.4, unless it's been re-bored.
1993 was the changeover year to the 3.0 engine though.
If you can see EFI Diesel in red on top of the engine, then it's a 2.4.

The actual capacity is 2446cc so it's a bit closer to 2.4 than 2.5

        Thanks guys.
I'm picking it up on tues so i'll know more then.
Bought it on a whim without seeing it and with a tappy top end.

payed peanuts for it(£560) so got some dosh to throw at it to get it pucker
Theres a garage near me supplies the upgraded heads, complete to drop on for £299 so if it's the worst case then that's ok unless anyone knows anywhere else ?

I doubt it will be a genuine head at that price, and will probably crack again!

Check out Stevo, he's one of the sponsors at the top of the page, he supplies/fits genuine heads. (Engine co.uk)

            It's listed here; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tab%3DWatching
It says it's the thicker casting designed to overcome the cracking flaw.

Hmmm, well the one in the photo isn't a Surf head for a start.

I'm still suspicious though, as they're main business is reconditioning parts.
For peace of mind I would get one thats got recommendations from customers on this site.

Sorry, but I don't trust Ebay ads. like that.

                  Radiators.
If you ever need a new one, get it from Roughtrax or Toyota.
Milner 4X4 sell them, but either they had a really bad batch or a mucho cheapo supplier, 'cos they fell apart after a few months. May be different now though, but no-one knows.

i bought my ssr limited 2.4 for 600quid and it's done everything i ever wanted. awesome project vehicle. slightly modified now though ;-) but i'd agree about buying heads and other things of ebay, be careful its a lot of money to spend for something to go wrong and possibly cause more damage. check reputable sources

it doesnt look like a surf head!!
Completely bitten by the off road bug, and what better vehicle to do it in!

For that price, it's not one I would trust.

I'm off to pick her up tomoz. Getting the train down in the morning and i'm going to attempt a (steady) drive back. (175miles)
I'll report my findings when i've given her the once over.
I'm told the top end is tapping from the middle area and no reports of any water cooling/contamination probs, so it could be crap oil or worn shims/cam as oppose to a cracked head.
