  • rear window

Hi I am having probs with my rear window on my 2nd generation surf, when yuo turn the key you can hear the motor working away but nothing happens. I presume the gears on the back have stripped, it as been a bitch for a while my prob is how the b****y h**l do you get the window down, so as to open the tailgate to have a look. I have tried undoing the 4 bolts that hold the mechanism in as i thought it would slide to the left (offside of vehicle) and allow the window to move but this was to no avail any ideas any one.

    regards skid.

You have to remove the motor. The mech can then be easily moved up/down. There's a write-up on the motor repair here if it has split the drive/gear section:

If the gears are stripped then I would expect the window to push down by hand while the motor is running.

Prob not as there is a large spring that assists the motor winding the window up. And if the runners need and rubber seals greasing it will be even harder to move the glass.
