              Head gasket

I may be able to help. I have spoken to a guy who runs a Surf and works for the company who supplied my recon motor. The problem is most likely to be the head gasket, the standard item you can buy are to thin!

I had my recon engine fitted and it runs spot on, temp gauge stays at halfway but the cooling system pressurizes. I tried everything the guys in the forum told me but nothing worked.

I am having the new gasket fitted today so will let you know if it works. He even says it will work even with a warpped or cracked head. If it does work I will post the details for everyone tonight.

I say he should stop playing with it.

I have to agree with Nev, your man is talking b0llocks. Sounds to me like he's trying to fob you off with a quick fix to avoid pulling a dodgy engine out and putting a new one in.

Yeah that's what I meant. Perhaps I should say what I really think. The guy is full of it. There's nothing wrong with the genuine head gaskets. What the hell does he mean by too thin? They are available in three thicknesses which depending on piston protrusion will tell you which one to use. The heads crack nowhere near the gasket but rather between the valves. If your cooling system is pressurising above normal cooling system pressure then you have a cracked head or he has done some other dodgy work to the engine. He may even get your vehicle back for the day, add some radweld or other sh!t and they send you on your way.
