  • old type head

i have a 93 surf 2.4 & have herd all sorts of horror stories regarding the cylinder head the guy who i bought my surf off assured me it had the new type head fitted after the old one went BANG ! is there any way of knowing for sure just by looking at it in situ wether it has been changed or not ? It has done around 179,000 km & runs like a dream temp is always at half way & never fluctuates ! any advise would be great

    Head ID etc.

Don't know about distinguishing heads, but the temp gauge will only ever read half way unless modded. Search the forum for temp gauge mods, there's an Aussie site tells you how to do it, and why.

There is no way of telling if the head is the new 2.8 3l head just by looking as its the internals which are different. The temp gauge will sit at half way unless your towing uphill with a heavy load on but it should be ok tho.just keep an eye on the gauge and check the coolant at regular intervals and everything should be ok

Look at the receipt? Or put a photo up - it might have belonged to one of us once....

AFAIK, the 3L heads were being put on during late '92, so if your truck is later into '93 chances are it's a 3L -- but it's always difficult to tell.

just to clarify the new heads are not the 3litre head it is a 2.8litre 3l head
