Any Ideas,

Just bought another surf 2.4, ticks over sweet runs well plenty of power but when you rev it and she warms up there is a constant tapping

Does the tapping get faster as the engine is revved?


Is it definitely a tapping noise or more of a tick?

worn camshaft or shims.

yes it does get faster with engine speed. If it was worn camshaft / shims would it die suddenly with a bang or slowly with some warning.

It'll just get louder and more annoying.

According to stevo, who supplied my head, he's never seen a worn cam shaft.
chances are it just needs some shims to adjust it, I'm no guru, just passing on what I've heard.

Also when was the oil changed last?

err indoors 2.4 gets a bit more tappy when the oil needs changing

cheers think i will drive it around for a while till i decide what to do with it

well i drove it around a bit and it died on the M3.

Oh well new engine or rebuild?

the engine i got in my breaker sounds a good engine when i drove it last week.The head has gone but the engine is really quiet so if your interested let me know and we may be able to come to an arrangent for delivery aswell if the price is right

No rush at the min coz i ain't got the spare cash, wil have to have a think, cheers.
do need a plug of a 2.4 wiring loom though could you split one or is that takin the ####
