when the car hasnt been run for a while it is Very juddery starting the engine it chucks out thick white smoke from exhaust and has to have the engine reved alot to get it going. and even then its only just about getting there.

once engine is going juddery for about 30-40 seconds then its fine and once its been started properly it will start again ok.

have you changed the fuel filter lately and try filling a new filter with redex or atf before refitting.

Sounds a bit like oil fouling. If the simple stuff doesn't solve it (and do try the simplest stuff first ), have a look at the valve guide seals.

Does the thick white smoke have a sweet smell?

Diesel that has not burnt completely has a sweet smell, glow plugs could be suspect, also do you wait for the beep before starting?

Have you checked the water drain off on the bottom of the fuel filter assembly? There may be water in the fuel and the warning light on the dash may have blown, or the wires have come of the sensor.

i am having same problem. New plugs fitted about 4 mtn ago. Its as if the engine is starved of fuel over night?
