  • Finding Fuel Filter...

I've slowly going through my new Surf, and there have been a fair few little changes the last owner made (like huge decals down the side -- gone; and non-functional front spotlights -- gone).

The standard fuel filter has been replaced with a Delphi unit, Delphi HDF 901. I haven't been able to find a good source for these in the UK.

Any ideas, or would it be easier to go back to the standard filter?

It probably uses this filter element which is the most common and is a replacement for the filter usually used on Toyota vehicles.

It's a general Ford filter head, by the sounds of it, and by the looks of those canisters Nev linked to. They're fairly common in Ford diesels, so any motor factors will stock them.

If you have the original filter head with the Toyota adapter underneath then the filter element will be a 296. If not then it may taks a different element.

It's a fair bit deeper than the 296 (say about 20% more). I don't have the water sensor/float from the original

Delphi HDF 901 seems to be a very strange number. I can't find any reference to it. I did find a reference to 7176/901 in filters. The best I can come up with is this link.

              http://alshams-filters.com/filter.ph...D=4870&lang=en

Click the cross reference for other brands, If the size is right then it may be what you need.

Thanks for digging that out. I couldn't find any references to the thing either.
I think I'll try either restoring the factory filter, or fit a more popular aftermarket one.

That was a good find. Googled some of the alt. part codes, found a UNIPART alternative GFE5296, which comes back to the Delphi 296.

Turns out the 901 is just a defunct, older version of the 296. It has a longer working life, but the filter material and fittings should be the same.

Found this interesting site in passing: http://www.comline.uk.com/home.htm

                    Top sluthing, NiftyNev ... cheers!
