    What motor is it?

    1st gen 4runners like mine had a 3Y, pickups had a 3Y or a 18R, both 2.0l.

Both are a little gutless on the motorway, especially with oversize tyres, but are fine offroad, and actually quite economical and very reliable.

A $$$$ carb will probably be the biggest hassle, as parts arn't available. Also the timing chain can stretch and rattle, as the oiler can get blocked. But thats about it. Apparently, the 3Y is a popular fork truck motor, and good running engines are hard to find and cost lots.

      Hi TonyN,
Think you have a twin who has a V8 anyway thanks for the info as i said i can't find any info on this particular model so any morsel of info is very welcome The car is still advertised in the Autotrader as a g reg 2.0 Surf i think it's a 2nd gen i am told it is pretty rare being an auto petrol they will be even rarer if i swap the lump for a V8 I am going to lpg it asap as i also have an underneath spare wheel replacement tank and all the other lpg bits in my garage so should be a economical motor indeedy when ive finished converting
      Cheers,
      Chas.
